Q & A
Q. How do I rotate an open portion of a figure to force closure? I can do it mathematically, but I'd rather have AutoCAD do the work.
A. You can do it in vanilla AutoCAD without LDD or any other add-on. It's as simple as using the ROTATE command with the 'Reference' option.
The above figure shows a sample parcel with a misclosure. The white legs are known. The lengths of the red legs are known, as is the internal angle. The angles formed at vertices 'a' and 'b' are unknown, but point 'b' is supposed to lie on the long white line to the North.

Tips & Tricks
What happened to my AutoCAD?
This issue's tips focus some of more common head-scratchers caused by settings that have gone awry.
CMDDIA When CMDDIA is set to 0, most AutoCAD commands requiring input will ask for it at the command line. To interact via dialogs, change CMDDIA to 1.
FILEDIA When FILEDIA is set to 0, any file specifications must be made by typing them at the command line. To select files or folders via dialog, change FILEDIA to 1.
ATTDIA When ATTDIA is set to 0, attribute values must be supplied by typing them at the command line. To enter attribute values via dialog, change ATTDIA to 1.
PICKBOX That little square you use to select objects is called the pickbox. Its size can be adjusted to suit your preference. Default size is 3 pixels.
APERTURE The aperture is the little target box centered on the crosshairs used in selecting objects to be considered for OSNAPs. Default size is 10 pixels. (This setting is affected by AutoSnap - see 'APBOX' below.)
APBOX The aperture box is disabled when using AutoSnap (since AutoCAD 2000). Setting APBOX to 1 restores aperture behavior familiar to longtime AutoCAD users. The default is 0.
CURSORSIZE This setting specifies the length of the crosshairs as a percentage of the screen size. A value of 100 will result in crosshairs the full height and width of the screen as in earlier versions of AutoCAD. Default value is 5.
VISRETAIN This setting controls how layer settings of xref-dependent layers are stored. If VISRETAIN is set to 0, layer visibility, color, etc. are read from the referenced drawing. If VISRETAIN is set to 1 (the default), any changes to layer settings of referenced drawings are stored in the current drawing.
AUNITS Specifies the method of displaying angular measurements. Surveyor's units may be specified with the setting '4'.
BLIPMODE Controls the display of those little tick marks wherever you click your mouse. (0=off / 1=on)
That's all the space this time. We'll continue this list of potential troublemakers in the future. If you have any particular troubles, let us know.
